Those who know me even a little bit, know that I run The Sims Zone, a large Sims fansite. I got into it as a bit of a sims fan - not as big as some others, but well enough to run a site for it. Recently there's been a news story that, after GTA San Andreas, attorney has turned his (its) head to The Sims 2, as it would supposedly be pornographic.

In GTA, an extremely violent game, previously rated M (17+), you can steal cars, shoot random people and officers, have some quality time with girls you pick up on the streets, and change your clothes. A Dutch guy did a bit of hacking, and found scenes where the main character has sex with his girlfriend - after building up a relationship - with their clothes on. The result: an AO (Adults Only, 18+) rating for the game, Take Two's (the publisher) stock ratings making a drop, and GTA being taken off many shells of shops which maintain a "no AO" policy, and a study done for unfair competition against Take Two/Rockstar.

Now attorney Jack Thompson, being one of the main men behind GTA's banning, is heading at the Sims 2. A cheat reveals the naked bodies of the genital-less Sims, nothing worse than barbie-dolls too many children play with. Mods, not made by Maxis, would make the game into a porn offering, or a paradise for paedophiles.

Sure. You need to download stuff to make the game pornographic. Same with GTA, except that in that case Rockstar made the content themselves, but locked it out of regular gameplay. In the Sims, the content is made by fans. Not the responsibility of Maxis/EA, no matter how much they encourage the community to be creative and make new clothes and all. The very large majority is content that is very suitable for Teens, for which the game is rated, as they're either family albums, new clothes, odd skintones (Sims can be purple if you want), hairdos, and more. If anything, they encourage creativity - not porn.

I wonder if Jack ever visited whitehouse.com, the first place many youngsters would go to to find info about the White House in DC. It's a porn site. You want whitehouse.gov (or not, of course). This is much worse than the Sims, where you don't see anything explicit. It's harder to find the pr0n for a game than that website.

It also seems a little bit off that apparently violence and more, is worse than a bit of sex, see the GTA matter. The first kills people, the second makes them. Is JT after some kind of massive birth control or so??? What happened to the land of the free?

Whatever JT is after - the extinction of the game industry, birth control, taking away all responsibility of parents, attention, money, acting stupid or whatever - I hope he fails. He's acting like an idiot, and the majority of the Sims community agrees. So I vote to stop Jack Thompson, Hillary Clinton, and friends.
