Big Release Week [Update]

This morning, while waking up and surfing the web a bit, it came to me. There are many software releases this week.

First of all, tomorrow is download day for Firefox 3. Get it tomorrow! I already blogged about this one, and I once again urge you to help Mozilla to that world record. Download Firefox 3 tomorrow!

Then, also tomorrow, Spore's Creature Creator is officially released. Now EA already gave fansites (including me) a copy, so you can already get a bunch of my creatures, including a full alphabet, from Sporepedia. Look at my shiny badge:

Visitk Spore.com

Finally there's another release this Thursday. Although I'm quite a big fan of Gentoo, I've also used openSUSE (previously SuSE) a lot in the past. I'm thinking of putting that on my laptop again, saving myself the hassle of continuous compilations, and what better opportunity than the release of openSUSE 11.0 to do so?

Update (17 June): Just found out that Wine also just released version 1.0 today. That's three major software releases on one day! Congratulations!

Also, Firefox 3 Download Day is on! You have until tomorrow (18 June) 17:00 UTC to help Mozilla set that world record! Go and download!

Mozilla has announced the official release date of Firefox 3: June 17th. In just 5 days you can get the newest release of this great browser. To give the browser some special attention a Guinness World Record attempt will be made on the 17th. Within 24 hours, Mozilla wants to set a new record of the most downloaded piece of software. That means you'll have 24 hours to download Firefox 3 and help Mozilla to a world record. Pledge now, download Tuesday!

More IE Pains

It's been a while, but I'm back again... for some more complaining. Remember my struggles to get a web design to look properly in IE? Well, I'm at it again. I'm working on a new project - not saying which - of which the HTML uses a lot of floated elements (divs). I've done the HTML and CSS, and it all works well. No problems anywhere - I might need to make a few tweaks here and there still, but other than that it's all right. In Firefox, Konqueror and Opera. Safari probably too, since it uses almost the same rendering engine (a "program" that reads the HTML, and makes it look right on your screen). Guess what? IE6 is struggling to get it right.

IE6 is in standards mode, which I admit is by far not as bad as the quirks mode... but it does a few odd things. First of all, the CSS property 'height' acts as the 'min-height', so that's one hack. But worse than that, IE decided to duplicate part of the menu. For whatever reason. It's just there, twice. Even though it's in the HTML only once.

Due to lack of time I didn't get round to checking what the hell the problem was last week, but I now did a quick search, and found the problem: Duplicate characters. "Microsoft Get the Facts" my ass, first get some proper software. Time to get this baby fixed up.
